Hugh Laurie
British actor Hugh Laurie has long been a staple of English TV, starring with his comedy partner Stephen Fry in their skit series A Bit of Fry and Laurie as well as the '90s TV adaptation of Jeeves and Wooster. Laurie eventually transitioned to movies, appearing in Peter's Friends (along with fellow Cambridge Footlights graduates Fry, Emma Thompson, and Tony Slattery), 101 Dalmatians, Stuart Little, and Flight of the Phoenix.
In 2004 Laurie landed the iconic role of Dr. Gregory House for the American TV drama series House M.D. The complex role required Laurie to sport a flawless America accent, walk with a cane, and spout sarcasm. For his portrayal, Laurie gained nationwide acclaim, a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Drama), and several Emmy nominations. A true Renaissance man, Laurie has directed episodes of the British TV series Fortysomething and authored a 1997 novel, The Gun Seller. An accomplished pianist, he composes music and has performed with groups such as the Band from T.V.
