Human resources

Tag details

Human Resources (or HR) covers a wide range of business practices and activities with one common denominator: they all impact employees.

HR practitioners handle such activities as: compensation and benefits administration, change management, training, executive coaching, recruiting, succession planning, performance management, internal communications, employee recognition, legal compliance, and labor relations.  HR professionals are typically either generalists, managing many or all of these areas, or specialists in a specific discipline.

In recent years progressive organizations have placed a heavy emphasis on internal brand to attract and retain talent that brings a competitive advantage.  As employees look for more than just a paycheck and the public places corporate practices under greater scrutiny, HR becomes increasingly more strategic, developing talent strategies, analyzing and adapting corporate culture, and functioning as a trusted advisor to leadership on aligning talent with corporate goals.
