The most common illness is a cold or influenza with symptoms such as a temperature, streaming nose, muscle aches, a cough or a sore throat. Keep warm, with plenty of bed rest and fluids to aid recovery. Complications can develop such as a chest infection or more rarely, pneumonia. Influenza is caused by a virus but as each winter brings a different strain, many people can be affected. Flu can strike even if you are young and fit.

Other illnesses can be chronic or even life threatening and many can be systemic and caused by internal issues, such as lack of fiber in your diet as it relates to your colon

It takes courage to live with a chronic illness such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. You need to have a good relationship with your health care provider and close family members. It may help to join a support group either in person or online.

When you suffer from an illness, it is the opposite of being well. Illness is an unhealthy condition of the body or mind which can have very undesirable side effects such as loss of appetite and depression. Incorrect medication or imbalance can even cause hair loss.
