Forbes has named Angela Merkel, Germany’s first female chancellor as the world’s most powerful woman in 2008, topping the table for the third consecutive years. The annual most powerful women ranking studies and lists down women based on their career achievements, their impact on business and economy, influence in politics and global media coverage.

Forbes has announced its list of Most Powerful Women. They include: 1 Angela Merkel Chancellor Germany 2 Sheila C. Bair Chairman, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. U.S. 3 Indra K. Nooyi Chairman, chief executive, PepsiCo U.S. 4 Angela Braly Chief executive, president, WellPoint U.S.

Forbes just released its list of this year's 100 most powerful women, and it's a fearsome collection of heads of state, captains of industry, and entertainment giants. Coming in at #1 is Germany's first female Chancellor, Angela Merkel, she of the towering intellect (and towering cleavage).

I have admired Indra Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo for her achievements in a fiercely competitive corporate world. I must add that we in India tend to take pride in the achievements of people of Indian origin- irrespective of the fact that we don’t know them personally or that while we know of them,  they- in turn- would not be aware of our existence.
