Palin has never been to Iraq.

http://thinkprogress.org/ 2008/ 08/ 29/ palin-has-never-been-to-iraq/
"Speaking with evident condescension" earlier this year, John McCain assaulted Barack Obama for having visited Iraq only once. (Obama subsequently visited Iraq for a second time recently.) "Sen. Obama has been to Iraq once," he said, "my friends, this is about leadership and learning." Over on the ...

Iraq Briefing - 11 August 2008 - Going after al Qaeda with a Vengance

    http://theredhunter.com/ 2008/ 08/ iraq_briefing_11_august_2008_going_after_al_q…

Yes I know, I suppose I should be writing about the Russia-Georgia war. The truth is I want to but don't have the time to put together a proper post on it. I had some discussion on it with a commenter in my previous post, and if you want to talk about it in the comments to this post instead of the briefing that is fine.

How General Petraeus Saved the U.S. Economy

    http://northshorejournal.org/ how-general-petraeus-saved-the-us-economy

Here’s a compelling piece by James Pethokoukis at the Capital Commerce blog on the U.S. News & World Report site. With oil prices continuing to plunge—and they may have a lot further to go—I’ve started wondering about this “what if” scenario: Where would oil prices be today had we abandoned Iraq to civil war and al Qaeda? What if President Bush had announced on Jan.

    "The New Reality in Iraq"

    http://theredhunter.com/ 2008/ 08/ the_new_reality_in_iraq.php

Time to post some of the more important articles on Iraq that I've seen in the past few months. First up is one in the Wall Street Journal of a piece by Frederick Kagan, Kimberly Kagan, and Jack Keane. The Kagan's are married, and both are scholars with all sorts of degrees and whatnot.

Iraq Briefing - 24 July 2008 - Confident and Capable Iraqi Leadership

    http://theredhunter.com/ 2008/ 07/ iraq_briefing_24_july_2008_confident_and_capa…

In February Col. Tom James gave one of the most powerful presentations that I've seen as part of his Iraq briefing. It is worth following the link and watching it for yourself. I was therefore pleased last Thursday to see him give another Iraq briefing. Col James commands the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division.

    Cause and effect in Iraq

    http://www.democracyforvancouver.org/ 2008/ 07/ 27/ cause-and-effect-in-iraq/

The Real News Network discusses the “surge working” talking point that is being used to try to criticize Senator Obama. The situation is far too complex to attribute the current relative calm to just one factor imo. No one can say with any certainty that the situation would be any different today without “the surge“.

    Surge Success

    http://northshorejournal.org/ surge-success

The surge in Iraq has been a success by any measure, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said during a news conference July 23. The policy, announced by President Bush in December 2006, pushed additional brigades in to Iraq to provide a security umbrella so the Iraqi military could build and the country’s government could grow.

    Obama Wrong On Anbar

    http://theredhunter.com/ 2008/ 07/ obama_wrong_on_anbar.php

Senator Barack Obama wants us to believe that he would have been right about Iraq if only the Anbar Awakening not occurred. Really. I think that, I did not anticipate, and I think that this is a fair characterization, the convergence of not only the surge but the Sunni awakening in which a whole
