Jack Bauer

Jack Bauer is a fictional protagonist from the thriller series 24 and is played by American film and television actor Kiefer Sutherland. As crack field agent for the Los Angeles branch of CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit, a fictional U.S. Government organization that falls under the direction of Homeland Security), Jack Bauer suffers all manner of physical and emotional distress in the name of saving his country from various terrorist threats. Probably the most wrenching event for him was the death of his wife Terri Bauer (Leslie Hope) during the final episode of Season One (Day 1).The fact that she was murdered by Nina Myers, a CTU mole, alienates Jack towards CTU specifically and humanity in general, although he is typically driven to do all he can in the name of the United States of America.

Bauer has both academic and tactical training. He holds a Master’s degree in Criminology and Law from UC Berkeley and a BA in English Lit from UCLA. He served in the U.S. Army in the Combat Applications Group and in the Delta Force Counter Terrorism Group. He’s been the special assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Director of Field Operations for the L.A. branch of CTU, and was a member of the L.A.P.D.’s Special Weapons and Tactics group.
