'Fire Your PR Firm' is Latest in Line of Industry Attacks

    http://www.odwyerpr.com/ blog/ index.php?/ archives/ 312-Fire-Your-PR-Firm-is-La…

Beating up on PR has become a bona fide media trend, whether it's Gene Weingarten of the Washington Post calling PR pros "desperate dillweeds" or another journalist taking to the Internet to assail the entire industry because of a ragged few, the problem appears to be getting worse.

Should start ups fire their PR firm?

    http://www.buzznetworker.com/ should-start-ups-fire-their-pr-firm/

Jason Calacanis thinks so. I’ve gotten more press than any entrepreneur could dream of–certainly more than I deserve–and I’ve never had a public relations firm working for me. [source] Ok, fair enough, and I agree with Jason for the most part. I don’t think that all start ups need PR.

Not Everyone is as Amazing as Jason Calacanis

    http://perkettprsuasion.com/ 2008/ 08/ 25/ not-everyone-is-as-amazing-as-jason-c…

I’ve been reading and re-reading this post by Jason Calacanis from last Thursday, advising companies to fire their PR firms, in order to get PR for their startup. (Note, on Twitter, Calacanis claims, “For record, I didn’t say “fire your PR firm” - Alley Insider added it (although I do think most PR fees are wasted).

    P2PR theory into practice

    http://fasterfuture.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ p2pr-theory-into-practice.html

Bauer Media (the company I work for) has a neat social media play called ditto.net (I would say that, wouldn't I? I've had a light-touch advice-and-support role throughout). It's a human sorting engine, enabling crowd-sourced entertainment ranking through the simplicity of voting on lists.

Jason Calacanis on startup success: Be jason Calacanis [Great Moments In Pr]

    http://valleywag.com/ 5039577/ jason-calacanis-on-startup-success-be-jason-calac…

We know that Mahalo founder Jason Calacanis likes to feed his pinup bulldogs Taurus and Fondue burgers from In-n-Out and Pinkberry froyo (to keep their coats glossy and brains brand-aware, we're assuming). Little did we know that he's also eating his own dog food.

    TechCrunch50: $3.5 million x Disingenuous

    http://www.inquisitr.com/ 2486/ techcrunch50-35-million-x-disingenuous/

Brad Stone in the New York Times has finally published his TechCrunch50 vs Demo post. I spoke to Stone last week on the subject, but obviously my so-called venom towards Michael Arrington wasn’t showing because I wasn’t quoted. Arrington has responded here, half calling out Stone for not focusing on the positives, but then has to stick the boot in to DEMO again.

Is Clay Shirky the biggest celebrity of Web 2.0?

    http://thewayoftheweb.net/ 2008/ 08/ is-clay-shirky-the-biggest-celebrity-of-web…

Because ‘The Rock Stars of Web 2.0‘ list on Ditto.net certainly seems to think so! (Disclaimer - I work for Bauer Media, who created Ditto, and help with some marketing…) At the moment, Clay Shirky tops the list, followed by Doc Searls, Stowe Boyd and Wayne Sutton.

    The 2008 Interview Bucket List

    http://www.seanpercival.com/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ 15/ the-2008-interview-bucket-list/…

I can’t help but enjoy doing interviews. Frankly, most of the tech scene interviews these days are just painful to watch. I like to inject my own style and keep the interviewee on their toes. I guess you could say its a mixture of what John Steward and Howard Stern both do so well.
