Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix is the Seattle born guitarist who rose to fame in the sixties, and is regarded by many as the greatest to ever pick up an axe.
Hendrix's run at the top was a short one — he released just four albums before his death in 1970. Three of these — Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love, and Electric Ladyland — were made with bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell in his best known band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The fourth was a live album recorded with Band Of Gypsys, a trio consisting of Hendrix, bassist Billy Cox, and drummer Buddy Miles.
Hendrix's brief career was book ended by legendary performances at the Monterey and Woodstock festivals. His musical peers at the time — from Eric Clapton to Miles Davis — universally hailed him as the greatest guitarist alive. Since his death, Hendrix's legacy has lived on with a seemingly endless string of posthumous releases and tribute tours. He has also influenced subsequent generations of musicians, including everyone from Carlos Santana to Eddie Van Halen.
Today, Hendrix remains as relevant as ever in the blogosphere, where musicians, fans, and critics alike continue to analyze his every note.
