Leonard Cohen

Tag details

One of music’s most influential artists, Leonard Cohen (born in Montreal, 1934) had already garnered distinction as a poet and novelist before emerging as a singer/songwriter in the late ‘60s.

With his introspective lyrics and folk stylings, he initially (and perhaps inevitably) drew comparisons to Bob Dylan. Yet through albums like The Songs of Leonard Cohen, New Skin For The Old Ceremony, and Songs of Love and Hate, Cohen established himself as a formidable talent in his own right.

While he enjoyed creative crests and troughs throughout the ‘70s and early ‘80s, Cohen saw his stature grow considerably upon the releases of I’m Your Man (1988) and The Future (1992), his two latter-day masterpieces.

Cohen’s works inspire recurrent, relevant discussion and analysis on websites like Speaking Leonard Cohen and The Leonard Cohen Files, both inviting insights of fans and scholars alike.

Upon his 2008 induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cohen embarked on a lengthy world tour, including a performance at New York’s historic Beacon Theatre in early 2009 that marked his first U.S. concert in over fifteen years.
