If I had to pick a common Achilles' Heel among the various collaboration systems I've worked with through the years, I would probably point to the fact that each system usually has a single point of entry. That is, you have to (virtually) leave the place you are currently working in order to go to the "place to collaborate".

The May 8 edition of Collaboration Newswire crossed the wire a few hours ago: "IBM's Lotus Quickr is a team collaboration product that continues and enhances the Lotus Quickplace offering, as well as embraces design ideas from the Web 2.0 world. It is also multiplatform, running on Microsoft Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.

According to Mr. Brill, Quickr Entry 8.1 is available for download off of the PA sites today, but I don't see it yet. Stay tuned, hopefully it's rolling out in stages! Search for part number CR72XEN. I got an email tonight from a reader of the 'ol House O' Blog inquiring if I had heard anything about the updated InstallShieldTuner for Lotus Notes 8 that was talked about at one of the Lotusphere sessions. So far, the only version available on the Passport Advantage site for us, the unwashed masses, is the same version that was released in August of 2005.

Okay, I know that some people are a little slow, but really? Under the Administering section of Quickr instructions they have a section on Starting Lotus Quickr Services on Windows. Here's how you do it: To start IBM Lotus Domino and IBM Lotus Quickr on Microsoft Windows, double click the Lotus Domino Server icon on the Desktop.
