The Public Editor The Scrutiny of Sarah Palin By CLARK HOYT September 7, 2008 STEVE SCHMIDT, John McCain’s chief campaign strategist, told The Washington Post last week that the news media were “on a mission to destroy” Sarah Palin and that The Times in particular had written “an absolute work of fiction” about how she was vetted before becoming the Republican vice presidential nominee.

AMERICAblog: McCain and the Republicans got to NBC and MSNBC. They pulled Keith Olbermann out of the anchor chair. Probably because we were all sooooooooo “sexist” last week. Really pathetic of NBC/MSNBC. They actually fell for the Republicans’ crap about “bias.” But I’m sure that now that NBC/MSNBC has caved to the Republicans, the GOP will never say another mean thing about the network.

Ever since McCain picked Palin as his VP, he has hidden her from the media, only letting her out in public to give canned speeches written by his campaign (like her convention speech). McCain has been clear that he won't let her do a press conference with the media, he won't let anyone have access to her unless it is on his terms, in a controlled environment, with no tough questions.

If you want a quick primer on how out of touch John McCain is with his own campaign, check this out. As I noted before, the McCain campaign made it clear that Sarah Palin will be sequestered, away from the media's prying eyes, until she's ready to face questions.

Watching Joe Biden just now talk in detailed and nuanced terms about the domestic and geopolitical realities of Iraq and its impact on the region just blows my mind when thinking about the potential contrast with what the same interview would look like if the interviewee were Sarah Palin.
