Fans of the classic Gullwing Mercedes 300 SL have been eagerly awaiting the new Gullwing SLC supercar, which Mercedes’ tuning house AMG has been spied working on over the last year. But if emerging reports are to be believed, the SLC won’t wear a Mercedes badge at all.

The website for the new-ish Mercedes AMG SL 65 Black Series. There’s a silly amount of wizardry thrown into the site, so much so that I managed to break it after a minute and a half — but when the car looks like this, I find it difficult to care.

On the heels of the stellar success of the 2008 CLK63 AMG Black, Mercedes-Benz will release a new sedan in the Black series for 2009. The SL65 AMG Black is a larger, more powerful and even more exclusive vehicle, and they will be even tougher to own than last year’s CLK63 AMG Black.

This is the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series. MB describes it as the 'exclusive high-performance coupe for the discerning motorist'. By 'discerning' we presume they mean 'totally and utterly crazy in the heed'. The SL Black - the third Black series car after the SLK and sensational CLK - is based on the latest SL 65.
