Michael Phelps

While the 2008 Summer Olympics left the world with several memories, the greatest story was probably American swimmer Michael Phelps for winning an unprecedented eight gold medals in a single Olympiad, breaking Mark Spitz' record of seven. More impressive still, seven of Phelps' swims were world records (less impressive, however, were his comedic stylings when hosting Saturday Night Live in September 2008).

Counting the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Phelps has more gold medals (14) and individual gold medals (9) than anyone else in history.

After Beijing, Phelps instantly became a household name, launching Internet rumors that one of the wins was the result of a pro-Phelps corporate conspiracy. He had also been reportedly dating Australian Olympic swimming hottie Stephanie Rice at one time. While Phelps may one day settle down and start a family, he might just be better off selling his sperm.
