For those still counting, Nortel shares touched a low of $5.51 earlier today. It’s either a record low or 25-year low but it’s still a low. For what it’s worth, NT has dropped by more than 75% since Mike Zafirovski came on board as CEO. The question is whether the stock would have performed differently if someone else had been at the helm.

I noticed that Nortel CEO Mike Zafirovski with reporters and editors at the Globe & Mail earlier this week. Now, that he’s apparently on a media tour, I’m wondering when his one-on-one with All About Nortel is scheduled to happen?

The Ottawa Citizen ran an interesting story a couple of days ago looking at what might happen to Nortel shares when 33 million new shares hit the market next month. These shares, which represent 8% of the total outstanding, are part of the settlement of class-action lawsuits.

Lots of stuff coming out of the AGM. Among the most interesting is a Reuters story in which Mike Zafirvoski suggests Nortel could make acquisitions to fuel growth but it will refrain given tighter credit markets.

Nortel announced earnings today and to get more detail on the news I had a chance to speak with Joel Hackney, President of the Enterprise Solutions Group at Nortel. Some details worth sharing... The company's net loss widened but revenue was up 11% and gross margins have been increasing for six quarters.
