In my post about Windows 7 back in January (“Windows 7 = Vista Release 2&Prime), I ended with a statement that deserves some follow-up: Those who are predicting that Windows 7 will include some radically stripped-down kernel (the so-called MinWin project) or a new file system are missing the point completely.

    So we all love windows vista right? Right? mmmm... ok well how bout the next version? Maybe a complete rebuild of the NT kernel? Sounds like the promises we heard for windows vista that took 6 years to deliver without the promises. Mark Russinovich has a well-known aura of being absolutely freakin' brilliant. I can attest to this, having seen a few of his presentations and thinking to myself, "I have no earthly idea what he's talking about!" Mark's a fellow now with Microsoft, which means he spends a lot of time evangelizing on many of his traditional deep, technical topics.

I study for certification exams because it's part of my job and I've always come across interesting facts through the course of my studies and eventually forget them. Now, I have a place to go back to and review them all.

The circle of life continues at Microsoft. The software giant, desperate to freeze a market, has started evangelizing a “new” version of Windows (called MinWin) that will correct Windows Vista’s bloatware problems. But don’t blame Microsoft for the noise about MinWin and Windows 7.0. Blame the trade press.

In the year that has passed since Microsoft released Windows Vista to business users, the operating system has gained a reputation in the channel as a bloated memory hog that many companies are avoiding like a trip to the dentist.

We’ve been hearing calls for a more mobile-orienated operating system recently and recent news about the next Microsoft OS, Windows 7, is a part of the spark that is lighting that fire. Call it MinWin, or what have you, talk of an embedded OS for mobile systems certainly makes sense.
