NASCAR

Tag details

NASCAR is the official acronym for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, a United States based competition pitting some of the best race car drivers in the world. NASCAR's headquarters are in three locations: Charlotte, North Carolina, Daytona Beach, Florida, and New York City, New York.

While there had been unofficial races at Daytona Beach organized by NASCAR pioneer Bill France, Sr., NASCAR wasn't officially organized until 1948. Some of the most famous drivers to grace the gravel and tar ovals of yesteryear and today include Cale Yarborough, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Lee Petty, Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, and crossover driving star, Tony Stewart.

NASCAR has been lampooned in the movies on several occasions, including Burt Reynolds' 1983 feature, Stroker Ace, and Will Ferrell's 2006 film, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
