NOAA
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, otherwise known by its acronym NOAA, is a federal agency with a mission "to understand and predict changes in Earth’s environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet our Nation’s economic, social, and environmental needs."
The NOAA is comprised of five departments working to exemplify their mission and goals. These departments include: the National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service, the National Marine Fisheries Service, the National Ocean Service, The National Weather Service, which also supports the National Hurricane Center, and the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.
An example of some of the work the NOAA does can be seen in a study done by the Scripps Institute. The study looks at how there is less atmospheric oxygen and more carbon dioxide in today's atmosphere than ever before, based on data gathered by the federal agency for the institution.
