Comcast Planning to Dump Bandwidth Hogs

http://www.geeksaresexy.net/ 2008/ 08/ 29/ comcast-planning-to-dump-bandwidth-ho…
By PatB Contributing Writer, [GAS] After a stinging rebuke from the FCC over Comcast's efforts in bandwidth shaping to preserve bandwidth for all their customers, Comcast is planning to retreat behind a stingy Acceptable Usage Policy. Beginning October 1, Comcast, the largest provider of cable broadband in the U.S., will impose a monthly limit of 250 gigabytes of bandwidth on residential users. Customers who exceed the 250 G-byte limit will be warned to curtail their use. A one year service suspension will result should the limit be exceeded again in the next six months.

    Is Internet Bandwidth Infinite? Not!

    http://www.precursorblog.com/ content/ is-internet-bandwidth-infinite-not

FreePress is in utopian fantasyland in objecting to Comcast's new bandwidth-usage caps -- charging Comcast is profiting from "artificial scarcity" from a lack of broadband competition. Artificial Scarcity! Internet bandwidth is not infinite -- despite FreePress' utopian fantasy that bandwidth somehow should be infinite in FreePress' perfect world.

    http://www.bizmology.com/ 2008/ 08/ 29/ politicos-and-techies/

Money and politics go together like cookies and milk, unless you’re apolitical or lactose intolerant. As the Democratic National Convention winds up in Denver and the scene moves on to the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, technology titans are making their presence felt on the national political scene.

    Comcast defines “excessive use”

    http://bennett.com/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ comcast-defines-excessive-use/

Comcast has modified its terms of use to clarify that “excessive use” is 250 GB per month. If you download more than this, and are on the list of heaviest users, you’ll get a letter from Comcast telling you to dial it back. If you don’t you’ll be canned.

Comcast to FCC (and users): F*ck off and die.

    http://www.capitolvalley.net/ 2008/ 08/ comcast-to-fcc-and-users-fck-o.html

Comcast responded to the FCC's order to revise and explain their network management practice. It's simple, really. They're just going to cut you off at 250GB. Now think about this. The original premise behind this issue was that Comcast was throttling BitTorrent traffic, and potentially cutting off a rival provider of video downloads.
