    Walter Benjamin's Writing Tips

    http://dobbs.typepad.com/ smoothpebbles/ 2008/ 08/ google-reader-5.html

A fascinating man, a wonderful writer -- and to judge from his tips for writing, a person of stupendously rigorous habit. I stumbled across these at Marginal Revolution. I put my favorites in bold and a few comments in brackets. Use with caution.

Filed under: in sixty seconds All bits of the pig, oh my! Boris Coquerel's charcuterie at Gilead Cafe. Fungi, fresh off hardwood logs, with Fun Guy. Cooks on the road -- fish frying in the back of a van. The Festival of Beer and the craft brewers that don't bother.

    A 'perfect' iTunes equalizer setting

And now for something actually useful: Works like a charm. Set it up. This hint is really only for iTunes, and I found it in MacFormat's September 2004 Issue. It was submitted by an anonymous user.

    NOTA BENE: THE BREAST

    http://marksarvas.blogs.com/ elegvar/ 2008/ 08/ nota-bene-the-b.html

"I am a breast. A phenomenon that has been variously described to me as "a massive hormonal influx," "an endocrinopathic catastrophe," and/or "a hermaphroditic explosion of chromosomes" took place within my body between midnight and four A.M.

    EISWEIN POETICS

    http://angelicpoker.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ eiswein-poetics.html

Sometimes, when one works in collages, appropriations, recontextualizations -- however one refers to it -- the notion of the result "being better than the original" comes up. But, really, if you think about it, and of course you do, when something inspires an artist to create anew, this isn't the way to think about the nature of inspiration.

A Pen Mightier Than The Sword

    http://jayreding.com/ archives/ 2008/ 08/ 03/ a-pen-mightier-than-the-sword/

Aleksander Solzhenitsyn, the Nobel Prize-winning author of The Gulag Archipelago has died at 89. His influence helped foster in the end of the Soviet empire and the dawn of a new age of freedom. His willingness to speak out against the evils of the Soviet system helped forge the moral case against Communism.

    NOTA BENE: THE GHOST WRITER

    http://marksarvas.blogs.com/ elegvar/ 2008/ 07/ nota-bene-the-g.html

"I turn sentences around. That’s my life. I write a sentence and then I turn it around. Then I look at it and I turn it around again. Then I have lunch. Then I come back in and write another sentence. Then I have tea and turn the new sentence around. Then I read the two sentences over and turn them both around.

10 Commandments might apply to more than just Facebook!

    http://www.salas.com/ 2008/ 07/ 14/ 10-commandments-might-apply-to-more-than-jus…

Check out these 10 Commandments for Facebook Applications. They are pretty good commandments for software in general. I especially like: “Make it simple. Users DO NOT read.”, from FaceReviews Yup, I have seen that time and time again with BlogBridge. Hard to believe. But true.

    WALL•E and Wendell Berry

    http://www.protestantpontifications.com/ ?p=657

This take on Pixar’s WALL•E shows why libertarians are soulless and humorless. Rod Dreher sets things right and points out the film’s great virtues. He sums up its value succinctly when he writes If Wendell Berry made a sci-fi movie for kids, it would be “Wall-E.” And here is Berry, modernity’s own Cassandra, on the very topics addressed in WALL•E.
