Notre Dame
The Catholic university in South Bend, Indiana is a fine academic institution, but when most people talk about Notre Dame in the blogosphere they're referring to the university's Fighting Irish sports teams, especially their football team. Iconic names and figures like Knute Rockne, George "The Gipper" Gipp, Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, Touchdown Jesus, and The Leprechaun make the team stand out like a sore green thumb.
The team also stands out in that it's the only major football program that does not belong to a conference. (All other athletics are aligned with the Big East Conference.) Furthermore, Irish football has an exclusive TV network deal with NBC that will last at least through 2015. What other team could pull that off?
While the football team has a national fanbase, some around the country are less than impressed with their scheduling habits, their recent record in bowl games, and believe they are no longer a national powerhouse. But everyone mired in this perpetual debate can probably agree that their signature gold helmet is one of the classiest looks in the game.

Let’s operate with a premise that may or may not come true, but for the sake of an argument and speculation we’ll say is true: Notre Dame will fire Charlie Weis relatively soon. That much isn’t exactly a stretch, though it’s anybody’s guess how long it’ll be before Weis’ buyout becomes “worth it” ...3 hours ago -

1. Execution While I may not have agreed with the conservative game plan, on paper, I agree that it could have and should have worked vs. Pitt on Saturday. Notre Dame should fire head coach Charlie Weis at the end of the season and I don’t write that only because the Irish lost to Pittsburgh on Saturday night.
