OASIS
Manchester, England-based Oasis became one of the most popular bands in Britain and throughout the world, launching themselves to superstardom with their 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe. Definitely Maybe was named the #3 British album of all-time by NME and #1 by Q Magazine. It is one of the fastest-selling debut albums in British music history.
The band was founded by Liam Gallagher along with Paul Arthurs and Paul McGuigan. Gallagher's older brother Noel then joined the band and became the sole songwriter for the band's first three albums and remains the primary songwriter.
The massive success of Definitely Maybe was followed up a year later with (What's The Story) Morning Glory which was nearly as successful as its predecessor with hit singles like “Wonderwall” and “Don't Look Back in Anger.”
The band released Be Here Now in 1997 and their commercial fortunes in the US began to wane while remaining strong in their native country. Standing On The Shoulder of Giants followed in 2000 and was the first Oasis record to feature a song written by anyone other than Noel Gallagher (“Little James,” written by Liam). Following Shoulder of Giants, McGuigan and Arthurs left the band and were replaced by Gem Archer and Andy Bell. They released Heathen Chemistry in 2002, Don't Believe The Truth in 2005, and Dig Out Your Soul in 2008.
