That had to happen, and it had to be announced. Novell and Microsoft have basically extended their collaboration, although the point of such a partnership seems unclear to both of them if you read the fine print.

So I am just back from vacation during which I unfortunately learnt about the war between Georgia and Russia. That is a complete madness and should be settled down as fast as possible otherwise I fear we will have a regional contagion. And remember, the war in Tchechenia is not over either.

No Further Appeals on OOXML? What About 11.4?

    http://www.fsdaily.com/ Legal/ No_Further_Appeals_on_OOXML_What_About_11_4

No Further Appeals on OOXML? What About 11.4? http://www.groklaw.net – I've been puzzling over something in the ISO press release announcing that the four appeals against OOXML as an ISO standard, from Brazil, India, South Africa and Venezuela, would go no further.

Giving the Finger to the DIS 29500 Appellants

    http://www.robweir.com/ blog/ 2008/ 08/ giving-finger-to-dis-29500-appellants.ht…

    OOXML Appeals Rejected

    http://ifacethoughts.net/ 2008/ 08/ 17/ ooxml-appeals-rejected/

    ISO rejects appeals against OOXML

    http://www.sutor.com/ newsite/ blog-open/ ?p=2463

Although I’ve previously published the slides for the talk I gave at LinuxWorld 2008 in San Francisco, I thought it might be useful to add some additional comments in the blog about each of the eight predictions I made. This is not the full text of what I said nor a full discussion of the slide, but just some ideas that flesh out what I meant.

    ISO's Day of Shame

    http://opendotdotdot.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ isos-day-of-shame.html

So ISO has decided it wants to be irrelevant:The two ISO and IEC technical boards have given the go-ahead to publish ISO/IEC DIS 29500, Information technology – Office Open XML formats, as an ISO/IEC International Standard after appeals by four national standards bodies against the approval of the
