Oprah Winfrey (b. 1954) overcame a difficult childhood to achieve great success in the broadcasting industry. After years of working as a TV news reporter and anchor, Winfrey launched a talk show in 1986 which is still on the air. Now the head of a media empire, Winfrey is one of the wealthiest and most influential women in the world. Winfrey offers hope to people and has become an icon for how to get it right when things go wrong. People are drawn to her for her warmth, generosity, personal openness, and resources.
