A couple of years ago I found a wonderful blog – Orangette. I read her post on bananas and was totally hooked. In fact, I often think about that post. Her writing is superb, it nips you gently and you remember it forever. A week or so ago a new friend emailed me. She had tried out Orangette’s recipe for apricot tart.

I’m more of a gourmand than gourmet and a kitchen dunce to boot, but there is a leetle part of me that wishes I were a food blogger. They seem so charmingly invested in their product, and many are quite skillful writers. Seattleite Molly Wizenberg’s Orangette is one of my favorites because each recipe comes with a story.

I made Molly’s chocolate granola last week as a present for my mum. Unlike me, she’s a hard-wired early bird and actively enjoys breakfast. So I thought I’d make something that was a little bit luxurious but would still work well for every day.

A friend emailed me an article from the New York Times on the perfect chocolate chip cookies. Yum. How many times have I made chocolate chip cookies, usually good (I mean, chocolate chip, right?), but occasionally really, really amazing? And I had no idea why…until now.

My own worst enemy.  There I’ve said it. In anticipation of a crazy week, and because the line at the deli had twenty people ahead of me, I tried to cram several cooking projects into one short Sunday.  By the time the lower fat, vegan friendly, deep chocolate cake came out of the oven, I was well

[insert fireworks theme here] not just because the entire US of A is celebrating its independence today, but because i a finally FREE!!! yes FREEEEEEEE - i finished the book. i am breathless with excitement. there’s still much editing to do, but that’s like eating cake compared to writing.

If you read my July 1st post, you are already aware of my problem when it comes to collecting recipes.  Just to illustrate how in need I am of an intervention, I thought I’d share with you the recipes I found today.

I’ve been on a bit of a summer kick lately (I wonder why?) and one of the ingredients I associate most with summer is fresh herbs. Ah yes…remember that herb garden I wanted to start last year? Well it’s on its way and I’ve already found a delicious way to put these herbs to good use. Introducing: herb butter.

With Mother’s Day behind me, it’s been back to the grind. The weather’s been warmer out here in the Northwest, but not exactly what I would call inspiring, and there’s been bad news round the globe this week. It’s enough to make a girl feel a little down. Certainly enough to make me run for some comfort food.

This week I am going to do something a little different, as Phil and I are busy in Seattle trying to find our hip new digs. Some of you may have noticed, I have been sort of “Seattle-izing” the links page a bit and I thought this week I would draw your attention to some great websites out of Seattle.
