PAX

PAX, short for Penny Arcade Expo, is an annual convention hosted in Seattle by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, the authors of the Penny Arcade webcomic. Since its inception in 2004, PAX has grown to become a celebration of gamer culture, featuring live game-inspired concerts, tournaments, game industry-related panels and exhibitor booths.

As it follows the larger and older E3 expo earlier in the summer, major gaming industry announcements tend not to take place at PAX. The event has grown every year since its creation, from 3,300 attendees in 2004 to nearly 60,000 in 2008. The event is currently hosted at the East Coast PAX in Boston is planned for Spring 2010.

Gaming news blogs and other similar Web sites, such as Kotaku, Joystiq and Destructoid, provide in-depth coverage of the event, with prominent staff members often speaking at panels. Such panels offer one of the few times the gaming public are able to interact with members of the gaming industry and media in such a manner.
