Recently green-lit to be built at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IBM's future Blue Waters supercomputer is peta'd all over. It'll have up to 2-petaflops processing speed, more than a petabyte of memory and a 10 petabyte disk storage system.

Cray has supercomputer cooling technology 10 times better than water cooling

    http://nextbigfuture.com/ 2008/ 09/ cray-has-supercomputer-cooling.html

Cray has unveiled a petascale-era cooling technology it says is more than 10 times as efficient as same-size water coils. They call it ECOphlex technology. The cabinet infrastructure can use either Cray’s high-efficiency vertical air cooling or our new phase change cooling technology that converts an inert refrigerant, R134a, from a liquid to a gas.

Talkibie has covered the concept of cloud computing in relation to its effects on software and as a technology base.  In this regard, cloud computing, or using a remote network of decentralized machines to complete an individual user’s request, is inherently self-serving.  Recently, educational and

Yes, Jon, there is a mainframe that can help replace 1500 x86 servers

After my response to Jon Toigo on Drunken Data with my post [Eleven answers about Deduplication], Jon follows up with a request to validate the numbers quoted in the February 26 Press Release [IBM launches New “System z10” Mainframe], particularly the estimate that a single mainframe can handle to the workload of 1500 x86 servers, in his post [A Bit More Blegging].
