Welcome to this week’s second edition of In The Zona. Phoenix AZ, which is in the geographically large Maricopa County which includes many towns including Scottsdale, North Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe and several others. There are many  wonderful choices to live that are golf communities, waterfront property (yes, waterfront views), magnificent mountain views, and sparkling city lights.

But in reality, you realize that these games are glorified practices, the only difference is teams can actually charge you to see them.

Some of our great PR ideas happen in the most interesting places. For Jackie Wright, owner of Rainmaker Communications, it was all about pizza and our future president as she sudsed up in the shower. Her timely and tasty plan was to create some buzz for her client, Streets of New York.

ESPN.com’s John Hollinger may not think much of the Suns chances this season but he does think highly of Amare Stoudemire. Hollinger ranks Amare as his third best player in the NBA based on his “Player Efficiency Rating” (PER). PER is a rating that Hollinger came up with and it sounds like NASA has to calculate.

I don’t know what to expect in 2008-09 from the Phoenix Suns. Call me crazy, but that’s kind of exciting. Especially after the last three seasons, when I wished that I had a universal remote that had the power to fast forward through a seemingly endless regular season to get to the playoffs.

R&R Partners’ Phoenix office has promoted Matt Silverman to Managing Director. He replaces Mark Heigel, who served in the positon for the past seven months and in executive positons at R&R for eight years. The Las Vegas-based marketing and PR agency also upped David Weissman to Director of Public Relations, Silverman’s former post.

While guys like Stephan Marbury, Ben Wallace and Gilbert Arenas had their own signature shoes, Nash has been stuck sharing his “kicks” with the likes of Jason Kidd, Larry Hughes and Tony Parker.

I have traveled to San Diego many times from my home town Phoenix but usually I used to return by night. This time I would have to stay there for a week to attend a seminar. Can anybody suggest me some good budget hotels in San Diego?

As reported earlier today, the East Valley Tribune is headed for a major re-org and has made major staff cuts. It is indeed very sad. A lot of good reporters out of work is not a good thing — we certianly need more, not less, quality reporting. But that said, this move also seems smart business.
