Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd is a pioneering British rock band founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Rick Wright. Syd Barrett left the band in 1968 to be replaced by David Gilmour. Roger Waters left the band in 1985.

Innovative, experimental, and often conceptually dark, the band was only moderately successful until the 1973 release of their classic album, The Dark Side of the Moon. Pink Floyd subsequently became one of biggest acts in pop music, and one of the top rock bands of all time. The Dark Side of the Moon enjoys long running sales success, as does 1979's The Wall which topped the U.S. charts for 15 weeks. The Wall also boasted the single "Another Brick in the Wall part 2", a song banned by the BBC, it became the bands only #1 American single.

On January 17, 1996, after over three decades of being one of most ingenious bands in Rock Music, Pink Floyd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Smashing Pumpkins lead singer  Billy Corgan's induction speech described them as the "ultimate rock and roll anomaly".

Rick Wright passed away on September 15, 2008. Syd Barrett preceded him, passing away  on July 7, 2006.
