PoD
POD is an acronym for Print On Demand, a business model for book manufacture and sales. The book cover and manuscript content of a POD book are stored digitally, and individual copies of the book are printed and bound from these files only upon receipt of a paid order for the book.
Two examples of POD service providers who work with authors and publishers are Lulu and CreateSpace. Another variant on POD is the Espresso Book Machine, a POD book vending machine which allows book buyers to select a book and have it printed and bound by the machine while they wait.
POD may also refer to the popular internet meme Picture of the Day, the banking term Payable on Death, or the American Christian metal band P.O.D., among others.
