   Last year on this date it was 87° in Grand Rapids and I was swimming in Lake Michigan!  We had 100% sunshine and an average wind speed of only 5.5 mph.  How’s that for a day in October.  We were in the midst of 4 consecutive days with highs in the mid-upper 80s.  Those four days averaged 23° warmer

   The new UK Business Secretary Peter Mandelson (pictured above) was rushed to hospital yesterday after suffering kidney pain. He will undergo a procedure later to remove a kidney stone. He was discharged from St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London, so that he could attend his first  ‘economic war cabinet’ meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

   I ws copyediting the warning label on a bottle of beer the other day (that’s what journalists do when they are bored), and it occurred to me that if we are going to have warning labels on beer, we need better ones. I don’t think we need warning labels at all. They aren’t proven to be effective.

    Yes I said it... Monday IS the most important day of the week. Why? The reason I say it’s the most important day is because what you do on Monday largely sets the tone for how the rest of your week is going to go. If you get behind on Monday you’re most likely going to be playing catch-up the rest of the week and never really feel like you’re getting ahead.
