Federal Election Strategic Voting Tool
http://lawiscool.com/ 2008/ 10/ 03/ federal-election-strategic-voting-tool/With the federal election just two weeks away, many are still scrambling to decide which name they should tick off on the ballot. A friend of mine turned me on to an interesting Google Maps mashup which allows you to enter your postal code and see an estimation of the latest poll results for your riding.

democratic space, still making me feel slightly better
http://wmtc.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 09/ democratic-space-still-making-me-feel.htmlTwo days ago I wrote: Last week, when I started gluing myself to DemocraticSpace, their seat projections had the Conservatives at 150 seats, five shy of a majority. Two days later, that was down to 145. Two days after that, it was 144. Today they have the Conservatives at 142.

What exactly is Proportional Representation?

In a closed list, voters vote for a list, not a candidate.

http://wmtc.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 09/ democratic-space-is-making-me-feel.htmlLast week, when I started gluing myself to DemocraticSpace, their seat projections had the Conservatives at 150 seats, five shy of a majority. Two days later, that was down to 145. Two days after that, it was 144. Today they have the Conservatives at 142. So everything's moving in the right direction.

to vote strategically or vote your conscience
http://wmtc.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 09/ to-vote-strategically-or-vote-your.htmlThere's been a lot of dialogue in the Canadian progressive blogosphere about strategic voting, whether it's more important to vote for something (vote your conscience) or to vote against something (vote for the non-Harper candidate most likely to win). For me, Idealistic Pragmatist's post on the subject says it all.

public vow: no more polls
http://wmtc.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 09/ public-vow-no-more-polls.htmlBecause the polls are driving me crazy - because I'm allowing myself to be driven crazy by media crap I should be ignoring! - and because national opinion polls do not correspond to seat projections (see comments here) - I am hereby declaring myself poll free.
