Rapture

The Rapture is a future event predicted in Christian biblical prophecy believed by many Christians to be connected with the return of Jesus Christ and the end of time (or end of days as many refer to it).

In this event, the entire world is plunged into a horrific seven year long tribulation just prior to the end of the world, by a figure the Christian Bible refers to as antichrist, and all Christian believers both dead and alive at the time are said to be "snatched up" into the air in order to escape the coming persecution. Although the time of the Rapture is unknown, there are three popular Christian views as to time line. These are the pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation, and post-tribulation views.

Popular books about the Rapture include Hal Lindsey's The Late Great Planet Earth and the Left Behind series of novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. The books have sold well into the millions.

On the Internet, there are millions of sites devoted to this topic. Among the most popular are Rapture Ready, and the Rapture Index, which gauges current world and political events on a scale to determine how close we might be to the Rapture.
