The debate over who can be called cricket’s greatest allrounder surfaced again this week. It has come down to just two players: Jacques Kallis or Garry Sobers. The person who raised the topic again is Australian journalist and author Kersi Meher-Homji. He is best known for his book The Waugh Twins.

As I was mentioning yesterday in one my posts, I have received through good fortune, an advance copy of the Hockey Hall Of Fame publication "Honoured Canadiens". In a word ot two, the book is simply a treat.

It’s been duly noted that Wes Anderson took inspiration from Jaques Henri Lartigue. For one, the shot of Max Fischer (played by Jason Schwartzman) as founder of the Yankee Racers is clearly homage to Lartigue’s image of his brother on a “bobsled with wheels”.

SAGE director, Shadix, and I got to interview Richard Jacques during SAGE and we had an extensive discussion on his favorites, creative process, and various other thoughts. The interview takes about a minute to get into it, as there’s a strange hiss for a bit, but yes, there is an interview after that noise.

I was all excited — I’d discovered that there was a Jacques Tourneur film set in Scotland — CIRCLE OF DANGER. I’d also heard it was very minor, which proved to be the case. A thriller without any thrills or jeopardy, the film is enlivened solely by performances and Tourneur’s combination of bold imagination and impeccable taste in filming them.

I remember back to October 2006, chilling out at Lee Rosey’s Tea Room in Nottingham after watching Richard Jacques and TJ Davis perform for the first time. I was conversing with my two new friends Kevin and Svend about the event; “We could do something like this” I remember one of them saying.
