Search engine

Tag details

While the search engine has the same basic goal of helping a user find what they are looking for on the Internet, each entity has its own ways of leading someone to that information.

Search engines basically work in gathering the information to show users in three steps. First, a search engine tries to crawl the web's billions of pages, gathering each site's information. Next, the search engine attempts to place all of these sites into an index. Lastly, the engine searches this index using its preferred methodology to display the best results matching a person's query. Not every site owner, or search engine user, is happy about the result sets they see. Web site owners have ways of helping boost their sites higher into these result sets by way of Search Engine Optimization. Search engine users can utilize a variety of words and symbols to help narrow the pool of results to search from, helping better their chances of seeing the results they were expecting.

Some examples of search engines include Ask, Baidu, Cuil, Dogpile, and Google.
