Sexism
Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on sex. Any attitude, action or institutional structure which systemically subordinates a person or group of people because of their sex, is said to be practicing sexism.
Sexism isn't always clearly understood, and the term is used inappropriately at times. One clear simple example of sexism is the not uncommon situation in which a women receives lower compensation for a job than a man, even when they both do the exact same job.
Sexism is also expressed structurally in society when certain behavioral attributes (for example, having multiple sexual partners), are considered acceptable for a male, but are socially frowned upon when the same social mores are applied to a female. This creates what many refer to as a double standard, one which coluld be viewed as sexist.
There are many websites and blogs which discuss sexism from a feminist perspective. Some good examples are Angry Black Bitch, where you'll see commentary on the Lily Ledbetter Free Pay Act, and Feministing, which takes a lighter more pop culture look at issues, often invovling sexism, on a daily basis.
