Benefits of a backup domain controller
Windows Vista Tips —

We will be adding a second server to our SBS 2008 domain. This will be a Server 2008 R2 install ( we are Action Pack subscribers) and will primarily be a file server. I am considering making this second server a backup domain controller as long as there are no huge issues with having the file server and DC roles on ...3 hours ago -
Re: How do you archive old files from SBS?

One of the hard parts of doing this is determining what should be moved to archive. If you happen to be on R2 version or the storage is on on 2003 R2 or better, you can use FSRM to determin which files are candidates to move. Perhaps then take this list to a script or better, powershell that moves the files off to ...12 hours ago -

How stringent are the security requirements around access to those archived files? One inexpensive way to add storage (with redundancy protection) to an SBS network is a Windows Home Server. Compare the costs and benefits of this to your NAS idea. The WHS cant be joined to the domain, so the security model is very ...14 hours ago -

I have a couple of questions re: SBS 2008... 1) We are looking at moving to SBS 2008 from SBS 2000 - our current environment. I would like to exercise the two-server option that the sbs premium version allows - however we are going to be unable to afford two servers as well as the sbs software and licences up front. ...16 hours ago -
Re: citrix vs remote desktop

Thats why we have Remote Web Workplace. I really cant see a gain to implementing Citrix for this, unless you really want to spend extra $$. Frankly, I dont see a need for VPN except in very specialized cases. With RWW in SBS 2003, you have full desktop access to network clients and terminal servers. With RWW in SBS ...16 hours ago -

SSL, Published Apps, Security and mangeability. Although Citrix is not free as opposed to RWW but if you run apps on server you will need to allow those users to login to the server.
