Superman
Ask just about anyone to name a superhero, and Superman will leap to most people's lips. The alien from another planet is recognized as one who defends those who cannot help themselves. Protection strikes a chord everybody feels.
It's easy to find this larger than life man. All one has to do is go to the nearest bookstore and look in the graphic novel section. Many a tale has been written about various adventures he's had.
Even modern culture has been affected. Some refer to the current President as Superman. Whether this title fits remains to be seen, but there is no question of just how much society emphasizes an advocate for the downtrodden. It reminds people they will not be forgotten. Nor will they be left alone.
Appealing to a wide audience, however, is a matter of skill. Storylines must reflect how things change on almost a daily basis. Market testing helps define where improvements must be made.
All in all, Superman will most likely be around for centuries to come.
