Survival

Survival is an innate human and animal instinct that serves to establish continuity in propagation of a species. Some of the more obvious necessities for survival are food and water, clothing, shelter, and fuel.

Bloggers point out in survival lore, nearly always stated as a chief concern to maintain a healthy existence is the ability to keep oneself warm, dry, and protected from the elements of nature. Bloggers speaking about survival also establish the importance of doing whatever is necessary in wilderness survival to keep the body temperature at a relatively stable 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Hypothermia, the condition in which the body is below 95 degrees F (36 Celsius), is to be avoided at all costs. Another factor to be concerned with in extreme winter weather is frostbite.

Replenishing fluids continuously sweated out of the body is important in temperate climates. Avoidance of heat exhaustion and heat stroke as well as sunburn are a few of the factors that come into play in outdoor survival within these regions.

As a general rule, human beings can survive for 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food, though it is never recommended to purposefully test these limits.
