There are many VoIP products in the market today- most of which offer the promise of reduced cost, better call control, and of course actual compatibility with Asterisk based products and services. Recently, I came across a product from a smaller VoIP company in Detroit Michigan that I have been extremely impressed with.

I have been tracking the most common questions that I deal with here at Interlink, as a VoIP/Open Source system engineer. Of late, the two main questions I deal with for the Digium Switchvox involve: SIP Provider Registration and Licenses I thought it might be helpful if I shared some answers with you on these two topics.

We should not be surprised for Asterisk receiving awards but every time I see that Asterisk does, I smile with satisfaction. Everyone of us are aware that Asterisk not only gave us the best Open Source Telephony Solution, it also changed the market.

A new era has arrived! The turnkey IP PBX Switchvox has arrived and taken the hacker out of Asterisk systems. Until advent of Switchvox, Asterisk remained the unequivocal hacker’s PBX. In order to run a successful configuration, the users and or administrators had to understand: Linux conf (configuration) files Telephony Networking Phone provisioning Switchvox changes all that.

Here at Interlink, over the past month, I have been fortunate to have a Digium Switchvox SMB PBX setup in our lab for testing. Over that time, I have been able to assess how well the Switchvox handles administrative tasks and what impact, if any, that these tasks may have in a production environment where downtime is not an option.

We're trying to migrate away from our ancient Comdial office phone system to a Digium Switchvox solution. The problem is that we can't just swap it out (for busines reasons - we want to stay open for business, no matter what). Our connection to the outside world right now is a PRI T1 line for voice.
