Telephone

The telephone was one of the enigmatic inventions of 1800's industrious America. Alexander Graham Bell is credited with the invention on March 10, 1876, when he spoke the famous words "Mr. Watson, come here! I want to see you!" This message was heard on the receiving end of Bell's device by Thomas Watson in the next room over.

Soon after the invention, telephone infrastructure quickly built up across the United States. The first coast-to-coast telephone call took place sometime in 1914, with the official first call recorded in a January 25, 1915 ceremony. Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Watson replayed their famous first call line, but this time Watson was in San Francisco and Bell in New York City. Long distance telephone transmission required electronic amplifiers to boost the sound down the line.

The telephone has come a long way. Today, telephones are in virtually every US household, if not in multiples. Just about everyone can be linked to a telephone number and found in a phone number people search.
