The X Files

Tag details

The X-Files was a popular science fiction series which ran for nine seasons on the Fox Network, beginning in 1993 and ending in 2002. The X-Files was also the subject of two full-length movies, Fight The Future in 1998, and I Want To Believe in 2008.

Created by Chris Carter, the show starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, FBI agents assigned to the often thankless job of investigating UFOs and other paranormal cases.

During its run, The X-Files became a pop-culture phenomenon by cleverly capitalizing on the UFO and conspiracy mania sweeping the country at the time. The show played this to the hilt, with stories that often incorporated real-life UFO incidents like Roswell, and using buzzwords like Area 51.

In the The X-Files mythology, Mulder and Scully always had to stay a step ahead of a government conspiracy involving nefarious characters like the Cigarette Smoking Man. The slow burning romance between the nerdy agents also made for a conspiracy theorist's wet dream.

Most fans agree that the show ran out of steam when Duchovny left the show, and his character was replaced by Robert Patrick's Agent Doggett, who never really caught on. Still, the show remains a cult classic and the subject of numerous blogs.

Perhaps I’m feeling jaded by The Slog but not only am I finding 2000 AD unimpressive at the moment but I’m unable to muster up enough fury about it either. That’s how I feel about the comic at the moment; under-whelmed. For example, although Steve White is a superior writer of Rogue Trooper to his ...
