This was the scene yesterday in the Western Addition, where hundreds of protesters blocked traffic in front of the Chinese Consulate. Drivers on the Geary Expressway, already wary of dangerous all-electric supercars, should experience a similar gauntlet today. And then the action heads over to the East Bay.

Brian Conley, creator of the video-blog “Alive In Baghdad,” was detained by Chinese authorities in Beijing while demonstrating with Students For a Free Tibet (below is one of their typical protests–unfortunately, footage of the actual detention is unavailable).

Evidently, it's not a really good idea to assert free speech rights in China or to protest the policies of the Chinese government. If you're Chinese, as I previously wrote, you can be sent to "re-education through labor" if you apply five times to get a permit to protest legally.

Unlike past Olympics, this year’s games saw a worldwide protest that swept in to challenge the frequent abuse of human rights, aggression against Tibet, and environmental hazards that China is notorious for.

Students For A Free Tibet announced yesterday that, along with 4 other “citizen journalists”, Brian Conley, creator of the amazing video blog series Alive in Baghdad, was detained in Beijing. Conley and his friend Jeffrey Rae were in Beijing to work with Students for a Free Tibet to document pro-Tibet protests in Beijing.
