Travelocity

Tag details

Travelocity was one of the pioneering companies allowing consumers to buy their airline tickets via the Internet instead of directly through the airline or via a travel agent.

In 1996, Travelocity was created by Sabre Holdings, a company "retailing travel products and providing distribution and technology solutions for the travel industry." By allowing customers to utilize this system, customers were given full transparency into the schedules and fares travel agents and others had been seeing for decades.

One of Travelocity's lasting images was its marketing campaign in 2004 featuring a traveler looking for his garden gnome. The gnome, now known as "The Roaming Gnome: Denouncer of Travel Myths" still exists on their site, promoting Travelocity's "Customer Bill of Rights."

Travelocity also offers consumers business travel and "last minute trip" sites. Travelocity is located in Southlake, Texas, a suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
