One late night in July, an old, decaying building in Anderson, Indiana simply could not stand up a minute longer. The structure collapsed. Though no one was hurt, the falling bricks did take out a neighbor’s boat and fence. The neighbors had been complaining to the city for years about the blighted property.

With the effects of climate change and ocean acidification caused by greenhouse gases worsening, government bodies worldwide are pressed to find a way to curb with carbon dioxide emissions. But with fossil fuel still proving to be the dominant source of fuel and with the recent G8 agreement to target a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide emission by the year 2050, it may seem to be a daunting task.

Germany has an ongoing plan to store their CO2 emissions underground. They used a special drill during tests earlier this year for the carbon capture project in Ketzin. The GFZ geoscience institute says that Germany will inaugurate Europe’s first underground carbon dioxide storage site.
