It’s 4 p.m., and that means it’s time to play Two for Eight. We just asked nine restaurants the best times they can squeeze a couple in for dinner; you need only make your chosen reservation. (As always, we make the calls but don’t guarantee the results.) Today: Danny Meyer and Tom Colicchio.

    Back from BlogHer ‘08

    http://www.flyawaycafe.com/ back-from-blogher-08/

For the first time since I started blogging, I took a long weekend off.  Did you miss me? The reason for my absence was a long weekend away – to attend BlogHer ‘08, held this year in San Francisco. What great fun to see Christina, Kelly and Elizabeth again.  We all met last year at BlogHer ‘07 in Chicago, and we had even more fun this year.  And to meet Jody, Tracee and Kristen.

Sort of. Maybe people got their Bastille on over the weekend, instead of last night. Down on Claude Lane in Union Square, instead of le jazz hot revelers got AC/DC’s Back in Black for at least part of the time anyway. Clique to enlarge:  This what Belden Lane, home of Plouf, Cafe Bastille, B-44, and le Best-O-Burger, looked like later in the evening.

    http://nymag.com/ daily/ food/ 2008/ 05/ union_square_cafe_waiters_are.html

Max’s fascinating profile of Grant Achatz and his fight against tongue cancer — but it’s worth a read:
