Verizon
Verizon is a broadband and telecommunications company, headquartered in New York City. It was founded in 2000 after one of the original seven Baby Bells that was created after the large break up of AT&T in 1983, Bell Atlantic, acquired the company GTE. It's primary service area is on the east coast of the United States. Verizon is best known for its land line and wireless phone services.
The company is currently in the process of remaking itself as a data and video provider with its service Verizon FIOS. At an estimated cost of $4,000 per household the company is installing fiber-optic cables directly to consumers' homes. This allows the company to give users fiber-optic speeds of up to 50 Mpbs and good HDTV picture quality.
As a large and well known company, Verizon is often covered and discussed on blogs for its wireless product announcements, company privacy practices and customer service issues.
