Virgo

Virgo is the sixth of the twelve sun signs of the zodiac. In western astrology, people born between August 23 and September 22 are born under the sign of Virgo.

Virgo is one of the three earth signs known for being grounded in the physical world, and one of the four mutable signs known for adapting to a changing landscape.

Attributes associated with Virgo include modesty, reliability, and analytical intelligence. In their extreme, these attributes can lead to perfectionism or being overly critical of oneself or others.

Throughout history, the constellation Virgo has been associated with female figures such as Ishtar and Demeter and blessings for agriculture. In northern hemispheres it is visible in the night sky during the planting of seeds in the spring, and slowly fades as the sun enters the sign during the fall harvest. The woman is depicted holding the fruits of the harvest. One of the stars in the sheaf is the bright star Spica, a Latin word for an ear of grain.
