Wedding Favors

A wedding favor is small gift given to the guests of a wedding from the bride and groom. Often the favor is at the table setting for each guest. The tradition of giving wedding favors developed from a European tradition of boxing a cube of sugar for guests at weddings in a special box, when sugar was extremely expensive.

As sugar became more affordable the sugar cubes were replaced with almonds. Eventually, the almonds were coated with a sugar shell; which has evolved into the modern wedding favor idea of Jordan (pastel colored sugar shelled) Almonds. It was tradition to place 5 Jordan Almonds in an elegantly wrapped box or tulle bag. The five almonds represent: happiness, fertility, longevity, wealth and health. The sugar coated almond was chosen to represent both the bitterness and sweetness of marriage. This was one of the first historical account of using wedding favors at receptions.

Today’s bride and groom are still using Jordan Almonds in some cases but have also branched out to a wide range of options. Blogs are prevalent online showcasing a wide variety of wedding favor options, and sporting sophisticated new ideas in weddings. One such blog is Manolo brides.
