Wrestlemania
Wrestlemania is the biggest pay-per-view event of the year for Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment, (or WWE). Often described in such superlatives as "the Superbowl of Wrestling" and "the granddaddy of them all," Wrestlemania is an entertainment extravaganza that combines pro-wrestling, pyrotechnics, and big-name celebrities, in an all-around larger-than-life, anything-can-happen sort of atmosphere. The annual event regularly sells out the stadiums where it's held, and draws one of pay-per-view's largest buy-rates of the year.
Wrestling superstars like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin all acknowledge Wrestlemania as "the biggest stage of all" for sports-entertainment. Celebrities have been equally eager to become involved in the event over the years, as previous Wrestlemanias have included everyone from entertainers like Liberace and Alice Cooper, to athletes like Lawrence Taylor and Mike Tyson. In one of the most famous Wrestlemania events, Hulk Hogan defeated Andre The Giant in 1987, setting a world indoor attendance record at the time at Detroit's Pontiac Silverdome.
