The OLPC seems that continues to coletazos. That small laptop for children in disadvantaged countries (namely, poverty, that andarnos about the bush) now you can buy anyone and with a new feature, will come with dual operating system, Windows XP and Linux.

The OLPC program just got a lot more mainstream, with word that Amazon will start selling the XO Laptop starting in November. It’ll be sold as part of the “Give One, Get One” program, meaning that for every XO Laptop you buy, one lucky youngster in a developing country will get one, too.

The One Laptop Per Child ( OLPC ) association plans to launch the upcoming second generation of its low-cost XO laptop in the first quarter of 2010, according to an official from the group. The XO-2, an update to the original XO laptop that's designed for low-cost computing for kids in developing nations, will carry two 16-inch by 9-inch touchscreens and eschew a keyboard.

When I met with Nicholas Negroponte not long ago, he laughed at the coverage he'd received through the past few years, including our own portrayal of Intel chairman Craig Barrett and him as Beavis and Butthead. Far more hurtful have been the admonitions of his own former staffers who feel he has mismanaged the OLPC project.

The OLPC project, which was originally founded, by Nicholas Negroponte and a few other veterans is today a statement of commitment from a host of business people, academicians, artists, etc. A network of volunteers and sponsors are putting in a lot of passion and effort to make this project a huge success.
